Toronto FC vs Orlando City 7/17/2021 Prediction and Match Preview

Toronto FC managed to bounce back to winning ways last week when they beat Eastern Conference leaders New England by 3-2 on the road. It was a nice win as it came after their most devastating loss in their history. Toronto will now return to Canada for their next match, where they will play host to Orlando City. Orlando have been doing a good job throughout the season but they are coming off back to back losses.

Toronto FC (2 wins, 8 losses, 2 draws) are coming into this match after a confident 3-2 win on the road against New England. They took their opponents by surprise and scored all three goals early in the match and managed to hold despite New England scoring twice in that match. That win was a huge deal, as it came after their massive 7-1 loss to DC United and also put an end to their six-match losing streak. However, Toronto FC are still stuck at the bottom of the Eastern Conference with just 8 points, featuring the worst defense in the MLS with 29 conceded goals. They have been equally bad at home so far (1 win, 2 losses, 1 draw), scoring 6 and conceding 7 goals in the process.

Orlando City (6 wins, 3 losses, 3 draws) met a really frustrating loss on the road against Chicago Fire. They actually took the lead in that match at the 34th minute, but their opponents pulled even before the first half was over and then scored twice in the second half to hand Orlando City a 3-1 loss. That was the second consecutive loss for Orlando, who had 3 consecutive wins prior to that. Orlando City are still sitting at the 2nd spot of the Eastern Conference with 21 points, scoring 20 and conceding just 12 goals in the process, which is the 2nd best defense in the Conference. Moreover, Orlando City have the 2nd best away record in the Conference with 3 wins, 2 losses and 1 draw, scoring 9 and conceding just as many goals.

Toronto FC vs Orlando City. The two teams have already met twice in the season, and Orlando City won both matches, by 1-0 at home and by 3-2 on the road. However, that was Orlando’s only win as visitors against Toronto, with Toronto holding the upper hand as hosts with 4 wins, 1 loss and 2 draws. A lot has changed in Toronto lately, the return of Jozy Altidore, the sacking of their coach and the return to home grounds. Taking Toronto here.
