I know this is getting ahead of things mid-season and perhaps I’m tempting fate but does anyone think City have under-achieved given their resources?
They were first taken over in 2007 and spent a fair bit of money, before a subsequent takeover in 2008 elevating their spending to even further excessive levels.
In 11 seasons they’ve won three league titles, one FA cup and three league cups. They’ve had no success in Europe and not retained the title in any season either.
They won the FA Cup by beating Stoke and have won the league cup beating Sunderland, Liverpool (on penalties) and Arsenal.
In the same period: United: 4 League titles, 3 League Cups, 1 FA Cup, 1 Champions League, 1 Europa League Chelsea: 3 League titles, 4 FA Cups, 1 League Cup, 1 Champions League, 1 Europa League Leicester: 1 League title Arsenal: 3 FA Cups Liverpool: 1 League Cup Spurs: 1 League Cup
Don’t get me wrong, I’d swap their success for ours in a heartbeat but I’m just a bit surprised they haven’t actually got more to show for all of their riches. They’ve had the best squad for much of this decade so I’d slightly expected them to have won more. I didn’t realise until the other day they’d only won the FA Cup once since the takeover.
