Result: Dundee United held at home by St Mirren in relegation playoff first leg

St Mirren appear to have the whip hand in the Ladbrokes Premiership play-off final after a goalless first leg at Dundee United. Tannadice was packed out by 11,062 expectant fans, most in tangerine, but the first half lacked quality with only a couple of chances created and missed. The game livened up a bit after the break before descending back into a mostly dull contest which produced little excitement. Both sets of fans will look for more from their respective teams when they meet again in the second leg in Paisley on Sunday. However, it will be Oran Kearney‘s Buddies, who finished 11th in the top flight, and who are now unbeaten in seven matches, who will fancy their chances of finishing the job and retaining their Premiership status. The Taysiders went into the game unchanged fol...

The second leg takes place in Berlin on Monday, where Union have the chance to follow already-promoted Cologne and Paderborn up from the second division. Result: Danny Rowe seals FA Trophy win for Fylde over Leyton Orient

The National League’s joint leading scorer this season struck the only goal at Wembley. Danny Rowe‘s second-half strike proved enough as AFC Fylde beat National League champions Leyton Orient 1-0 to claim the FA Trophy at Wembley. Andy Bond had a couple of chances to put the losing play-off finalists ahead from close range in the opening half, while team-mate Nick Haughton found the side netting as James Brophy came close at the other end. Jordan Maguire-Drew hit the post five minutes after the break as Orient searched for an opener, while Dan Happe headed an effort over and Marvin Ekpiteta hit the woodwork but – against the run of play – the Coasters took the lead on the hour mark. Joint National League top scorer with 27 this season, Rowe broke the deadlock as he curled a fre...

Result: Aberdeen beat Hibernian but miss out on Europa League

Aberdeen missed out on an automatic Europa League berth despite a 2-1 win at Hibernian on the final day of the Ladbrokes Premiership campaign. The Dons came from behind to secure victory as Sam Cosgrove and James Wilson both scored after Marc McNulty had given Paul Heckingbottom’s side the lead. However, Kilmarnock clinched third place on goal difference after beating Rangers at Rugby Park, meaning Aberdeen now need Celtic to beat Hearts in the Scottish Cup final if they are to claim the last European spot. Hibs spent much of the opening stages on the front foot and registered their first attempt at goal after 20 minutes when Lewis Stevenson, who had done well to make up ground on the left-flank, delivered a cross for McNulty but the Scotland international’s glancing header dri...

Result: Kilmarnock defeat Rangers to secure third spot

Steve Clarke is set to leave Kilmarnock with a farewell gift of a third-place finish in the Ladbrokes Premiership after Eammon Brophy’s late penalty sealed a 2-1 win over Rangers at Rugby Park. With the Killie boss expected to be named the new Scotland manager this week, Clarke was hoping to leave on the back of the Ayrshire outfit’s highest league finish since 1966. And Clarke – watching from the stands after receiving a ban for criticising referee Steven McLean – got his wish as Brophy drilled home from the spot in the 89th-minute. The hosts got off to a perfect start when Chris Burke fired home against his old side only for Alfredo Morelos to turn up the tension with his 30th goal of the season – and his 10th against Killie – midway through the second half. But Brophy kept h...

Amid a celebratory trophy-day atmosphere fringe player Johnston fired in the opener with less than two minutes played but that was cancelled out in the 17th minute by Hearts winger Jake Mulraney. Neil Lennon replaced Oliver Burke with highly-rated 16-year-old debutant attacker Karamoko Dembele for the start of the second half and he showed plenty of promise, but with six minutes ...

The Citizens scored twice in the first half and four more times in the second to complete their mission of becoming the first English side ever to lift all three trophies – the Premier League, EFL Cup and FA Cup – in a single season. Watford started well as Ederson produced what proved to be a big save to deny Roberto Pereyra early on, shortly before a strong penalty shout was turned down, and from that point on it was all about the...

Result: Motherwell end season with victory over Livingston

Motherwell edged a 3-2 victory against Livingston in a crazy final game of the Ladbrokes Premiership season illuminated by one of the most exciting talents Scotland has produced in years. David Turnbull collected the Scottish Football Writers Young Player of the Year award earlier in the week and he demonstrated just why with another outstanding individual performance. Whilst the game was relatively meaningless in the context of the season, both sides started with a high intensity that resulted in Livi creating two chances within the opening 10 minutes. Ryan Hardie breached the Motherwell defence before laying off for strike partner Lee Miller to fire tamely at the goalkeeper before captain Alan Lithgow’s header from Craig Sibbald’s corner was comfortably held by Mark Gillespie...
