Shaw impressed in United’s first four matches of the 2018-19 Premier League campaign, but was forced to miss Saturday’s 2-1 win at Watford with the head injury that he suffered on international duty with England.
There was a concern that the 23-year-old could face another extended spell on the sidelines, but Mourinho has revealed that the full-back will be in the XI for the club’s European opener.
“Luke Shaw plays Wednesday,” Mourinho told reporters. “We can’t do it with one left-back and Ashley Young is not just a left-back, he is also a right-back.
“They are both doing well, they are both different players and I think they both understand that one is a young player and the other is the experienced one and it is good for us to have these two options.”
United have been drawn into Group H of this season’s Champions League alongside Juventus, Valencia and Young Boys.
