Champions League Young Boys vs Manchester United 9/14/2021 Prediction and Match Preview

Manchester United celebrated the return of golden boy Cristiano Ronaldo with a massive win over Newcastle over the weekend. They will now start their Champions League bid with an away match against Swiss side Young Boys, who have been steadily improving over recent years.

Young Boys went through three qualifying rounds earlier this summer in order to participate in the Champions League group stage. They beat Slovan Bratislava by 3-2 at home after a goal-less draw on the road, after that they beat Cluj by 3-1 at home after a 1-1 draw on the road, and in the last round they beat Ferencvaros in both matches by 3-2. The Swiss league is already at the 6th round, and Young Boys have 2 wins, 1 loss and 2 draws. Last season they made a solid run in the Europa League after finishing 2nd in the group stage (3 wins, 2 losses, 1 draw). They beat Bayer Leverkusen on both matches in the round of 32 (4-3 at home and 2-0 on the road) but then they lost both matches against Ajax in the round of 16 and they were eliminated.

Manchester United are coming off a spectacular 4-1 win at home against Newcastle, in Cristiano Ronaldo’s (second) debut with the team. They have been really good so far in the season, with 3 wins and a draw in their first four Premier League matches. The additions of Ronaldo, Sancho and Varane are excellent and this team is going to go places. Last season they got a bit cocky after winning their first two matches in the Champions League Group Stage. But they lost 3 of their remaining 4 matches and eventually finished at the 3rd spot behind PSG and Leipzig, and moved to the Europa League. They overcame Real Sociedad in the R32, AC Milan in the R16, Granada in the QF, Roma in the SF but eventually lost in the final against Villarreal.

Young Boys vs Manchester United. The two teams also met in the 2018 Champions League group stage, where Manchester United won both matches, accompanied by clean sheets. Young Boys are never shy in their home matches, with 4 of their last 5 home matches producing at least 3 goals. Taking the Over 3 Goals here, in a match where Manchester United are capable of scoring at least 3 on their own.
