Arsenal unable to recall Calum Chambers amid defensive injury crisis

Injury-hit Arsenal will be unable to recall Calum Chambers from his loan spell at Fulham in January after failing to include a clause in his contract.

Arsenal are unable to recall Calum Chambers from his loan spell at Fulham as they face a mounting injury problem amongst their defenders.

Rob Holding will miss the remainder of the season after sustaining a serious ligament injury during Wednesday’s 2-2 draw with Manchester United.

The 23-year-old joins Konstantinos Mavropanos and Nacho Monreal on the sidelines for the Gunners, while Laurent Koscielny has not featured since May due to an Achilles injury.

Manager Unai Emery is therefore left with only two fit centre-backs for Saturday’s Premier League clash with Huddersfield Town – Shkodran Mustafi and Sokratis Papastathopoulos.

Koscielny could feature as he nears his long-awaited return, but the Evening Standard reports that Emery will not be able to call upon Chambers when the transfer window opens again next week after Arsenal failed to include a recall clause in his loan deal.

Chambers has made 11 appearances for Fulham so far this season, the last three of which have come in a holding midfield role.
