Antoine Griezmann ‘willing to take pay cut to join Barcelona’

Antoine Griezmann will sacrifice a £6m a year in wages if it means joining Barcelona from Atletico Madrid this summer, a report claims.

Atletico Madrid striker Antoine Griezmann is reportedly prepared to slash his wages in order to finally complete a switch to Barcelona.

The France international snubbed a move to the La Liga champions last summer by signing a new deal at the Wanda Metropolitano.

Mundo Deportivo reports that Griezmann regrets committing to Atleti, however, and he will now attempt to push through a transfer later this year.

Griezmann’s release clause is set to plummet from £170m to £100m, putting him in Barca’s price bracket if they revive their interest.

The report claims that the 28-year-old’s £20m-a-year salary could prove a problem, but he will sacrifice around £6m a year if it means realising his ambition of joining the Catalan giants.

Atletico also risk losing Diego Godin, Diego Costa and Saul Niguez in the summer, having already sold full-back Lucas Hernandez to Bayern Munich for £68m.
